Everyone knows how frustrating it can be to have a dog that won't stop barking, whether it's your dog or your neighbor's. Although barking is a natural behavior, every dog should learn when to stop barking. A good way to stop this bad habit is a shake can. A shake can is a soda can or plastic drink bottle filled with gravel then sealed shut.
 | When your puppy has barked enough, give the "Quiet" command, then shake the can until he stops. The noise should startle him enough to make him stop. When he does, praise him. |
| You may need to get him away from where he is barking so that he will respond to the "Quiet" command. |
| Some puppies learn this very quickly, and some take a bit longer. The key is to respond with this training every time the problem arises. |
| If your puppy or dog is barking outside all night, he shouldn't be outside. He needs to be inside, in a crate, or another secure area. |
| Some dogs bark because they are not getting enough attention or exercise. Make sure that your puppy is played with and mentally stimulated everyday. |
